Feb 17, 2017 | By: Courtney Lynn Photography
Congratulations on your engagement!
Now its time for all the planning and preparation for what will be one of the most amazing days of your life! The first 3 things you must do are: 1. Tell your friends and family! They are going to be so excited for you! 2. Pick a date/venue. More often than not, these two will be chosen at the same time based on availability of the venue. 3. Choose a photographer. Most photographers are booked out anywhere from 6-12 months in advance!
For today's post we will be talking about 5 quick tips that will help you choose your wedding photographer. When choosing your photographer there are many things to take into consideration and these 5 quick tips should hopefully help you!
1. Make sure you connect
This first tip may seem obvious, but everybody has different personalities. Do you see your photographer making your day enjoyable & relaxed, not “take over” and be too pushy? The reason this is so important is because photographers are there to capture some of the most important, and sometimes private, moments on your wedding day. Yes, they will be following you ALL DAY LONG. It's imperative that you feel comfortable being around them so they can achieve the most natural images that portray you in the best way.
2. Make sure you like their photographic style
There are many different styles of photography. Knowing which style fits your personality best will help you in narrowing down photographers. Take a look at the photographer’s website and ask yourself if you’d be happy with similar photographs on your wedding day? Every photographer will have a different approach, whether this be in the style they photograph or the way they deal with their clients. Read a little about them, take a look at their about pages and even read some of there recent blog posts. Check out their social media pages. Do they offer a more "boutique" experience, or just a "show up, shoot, give you files and they're gone" experience? Think about the kind of service you deserve on your wedding day.
3. Check out the products they offer
The quality, style and choice of products photographers offer will differ dramatically. It's important when you are meeting with the photographer, that you are able to look at all the products they offer and then know what is included in each package. Know what is important to you. Are you just looking for digital files to share on Facebook or would you love to have a hand-crafted wedding album that tells the story of your day or a beautiful art piece of you and your groom hanging above your fireplace? Find out what they offer and how they can help you create breath-taking art for your home.
4. Could you trust them in photographing one of the biggest days of your life?
This is important. If the answer is no, ask yourself why? Maybe you can make a list of reasons why you wouldn't trust someone to be your photographer. Keep this list handy when doing your search so you can narrow your search quicker. Trust is a huge part when hiring someone. It all goes back to the kind of service they provide.
5. Meet them
The best way to get to know someone is to meet them. The first impression is everything. I love meeting all my clients. It's a great way to get to know each other and talk about all your ideas and how you want your big day to feel. It's important that the photographer is just as excited for you as you are! This also goes back to tip #1 - Making sure you connect. This is not something you can do over an email.
