Planning a wedding doesn't have to be stressful. We are here to help you every step of the way! Each month we will have Wednesday Wedding Tips that we will share to use while planning your wedding. As we said, we've seen some amazing things and some not so amazing things. This month, it's our second tip to stress-free wedding planning - Creating a Budget Based on Your Perfect Day!
Seriously, stick to it!! One of the top 3 arguments between couples is money. The last thing you want to do is begin your marriage fighting over money. Speak to everyone who will be contributing to the wedding, and once you have your numbers, decide what the total budget will be and then how it will be divided amongst the different categories.
When deciding how to budget for each category, it's important make a list of your categories in order of importance. Now, start at the top, the most important category. What is it? Is it the venue, the caterer, the photographer or something else? Whatever it is, do a little research on how much that service may cost. Most people are not aware of how much certain services can cost, and you may be surprised at how much you will need to invest into certain services. As you search, you will see a variety of prices, some very low and some very high. If this is the most important aspect of your wedding, you may want to look into investing a little more than you think you want to spend and make sure you find the vendor who is perfect for you and can offer you the service you deserve. The experience you have with this vendor will be the one you remember the most and can set the tone for the rest of your planning experience.
Now continue this process as you make your way down the list until you make it to the end. Now you can compare the budget you created and compare it to your findings from pricing vendors. Is it drastically more than your original budget, or are you pretty close? With this information, you have the ability to make adjustments to your budget now versus 4 months in and everyone is stressed out.
The best thing about weddings is that there are SO many options. A great way to help you in the process of budget making and vendor selection is to hire a wedding planner. You can hire one to help you with the entire planning process or, you can hire someone to just sit down with you and go over budget and their vendor recommendations based on that. Wedding planners are very good at helping you achieve your wedding day goals without going over budget! Their expertise and vendor connections are a valuable asset to any bride.
