Planning a wedding doesn't have to be stressful. We are here to help you every step of the way! On the first Wednesday of each month we will have a Wednesday's Wedding Tip that we will share to use while planning your wedding. As we said, we've seen some amazing things and some not so amazing things. Our tenth tip of this wedding planning series - A Wedding Emergency Kit!
No matter how much time you’ve spent meticulously planning out every second of your wedding day, there’s always the possibility that something could go wrong. The weather may not be on your side, or maybe you woke up with a zit or a bad hair day. These things may present a mild roadblock on your otherwise perfect wedding day, so it’s a good idea to prepare a wedding day emergency kit filled with items that will help you take care of these unplanned emergencies in a snap. Delegate your maid of honor or someone else important to be in charge of the emergency kit on your wedding day. By expecting the unexpected on your big day, you’ll be prepared for anything. Download the printable checklist at the end of the blog post!
Hygiene and Toiletries
From mouthwash to makeup remover, these personal hygiene items are essential to have in your wedding day emergency kit so that you can fight bad breath and zits and tame flyaways and running makeup. Make sure you cover all the bases so that you’re ready for anything that comes your way.
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Cotton balls and Q-Tips
Oil absorbing blotting sheets
You are the star of the day and ideally being the center of attention only brings positivity to your day. However, headaches and other unforeseen medical mini-emergencies like blisters and minor cuts can occur without any warning and you’ll want to be prepared to get rid of them in a snap.
Pain reliever or aspirin
Allergy medication (crucial for outdoor weddings!)
Moleskin (for uncomfortable shoes)
First aid kit
Hair, Makeup and Beauty
You want to look your absolute best on your wedding day. Your hairstylist and makeup artist have made you look like the beautiful princess that you are, but 12+ hours on your wedding day can cause your hair and makeup to slowly slip. Be prepared to retouch anything that needs to be retouched and pin down anything that needs to be pinned with these items.
Comb or brush
Clear nail polish (for nail touchups and also for pantyhose tears)
Cover up or face makeup
On top of all the other items that you’ve included in your wedding day emergency kit, there are a few miscellaneous extras that you’ll be grateful you included. Initially, your maid of honor or bridesmaid may think it’s a little odd when they open up your emergency kit to discover these items, but on a day like your wedding day you definitely want to be prepared for any kind of unexpected situation.
Lighter (for fraying ribbon)
Pantyhose (both black and nude)
Granola bar or energy bar
Fake wedding ring
Tide To Go pen or other stain removal pen
Bug spray (outdoor weddings = mosquitos)
Heel protectors for walking in grass
Fast flats to change into
White chalk for covering up stains
Straws (so you can drink without ruining your lipstick)
Spare underwear (you never know!)
Of course all of these things are just suggestions! Before you go crazy making one, you can also ask your wedding vendors if they already have one. Reach out to vendors like your wedding planner, venue coordinator or photographer. I personally always have an emergency kit on hand at every wedding we photograph! I can't tell you how many times it's come in handy!
